We all have niche interests residing in the shadows of our hearts. Yet the people in our lives are rarely privy to it. To me, this would entail ancient artefacts and collector pieces. Visiting art galleries and antique stores transports me to a world of wonder that is inexplicable. Heirlooms, faded tapestries, and intricate artefacts hold stories, and I have had the privilege of visiting a culturally diverse range of these boutiques across the world. I have been viewed through many different lenses over the years, whether as the Godfather of Sri Lanka Boxing, Group Director of a USD 3 billion apparel enterprise, Board Director of multinational companies, or Director of the International Boxing Association (IBA). Significant and profound as they all are to my life- they are also well known. My passion for the world of art is lesser-known. I have explored this path for a while, and it has resulted in Sri Lanka’s first Art Street, Gandhara Street. It is a collaboration between many creatives and eateries, including my first luxury furniture store and interior design studio; Gandhara. When I come across antiques and art galleries, it is not just an aged artefact I see. It is history, artistry, marvels of a time gone by, and craftsmanship we rarely see today. Atelier Antiques Colombo was born from this deep-rooted passion to breathe life into objects that speak through their patina, mastery, and quiet elegance. An oasis for connoisseurs of art and history, perfect to be explored at leisure or to sit amidst it all while sipping a cup of coffee.
